The rapid rise in the number of serious respiratory illnesses in the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan surprised doctors and authorities in December. However, the outbreak of the new lung disease is only publicly known on the last day of 2019.
The next day, on January 1, 2020, the Chinese authorities closed a fish market in Wuhan. It is considered a focus of infection. It’s only been four months since then and the world has fundamentally changed.
On May 11, compulsory schools, restaurants and bars will reopen in Switzerland. Universities and colleges will continue in June, and major events are slated to start again in August. But uncertainty remains as to whether a second crown wave will hit Europe and the rest of the world.
