At the beginning of this week it was more of a daring dream. But exactly this dream is now coming true. In the junior category of the French Open there will be a purely Swiss final this year!
After the Bernese Oberland Dominic Stricker (18) defeated the Argentine Juan Bautista Torres 6: 0, 5: 7, 6: 0 in his semifinals, the second Swiss did the same: Leandro Riedi (18) wins his semifinals against the Dutch Guy Den Ouden clearly with 6: 3, 6: 1.
While Riedi shows no nudity in his game, Stricker has to shake more. In the second set, the Swiss had a bit of a hangover, otherwise he was largely sovereign. The second set lost was the first set lost in the entire tournament for Stricker.
It is the last chance for both players to win a Grand Slam title among the youth. This is followed by the pros.
Junior Swiss tennis and the French Open, that somehow seems to fit. Heinz Günthardt (1976) and Stan Wawrinka (2003) won the men’s tournament. On the female side, Martina Hingis (1993 and 1994) and Belinda Bencic (2013) triumphed. Rebeka Masarova also celebrated a win in 2016, but now plays for Spain. (sst / ome)
