Two people were able to free themselves from the avalanche cone with minor injuries, write the Nidwalden cantonal police.
One skier, a 23-year-old from central Switzerland, was able to be located by his colleagues using an avalanche search device and freed from the snow masses. Although resuscitation began immediately, he died at the scene of the accident.
