Many spent the turn of the year for once in a small group. Clubs and bars remained closed and sprawling parties were clearly forbidden in advance. Thanks to Corona.
In France, however, countless partygoers whistled about distance rules, hygiene regulations, and a ban on major events. Around 2,500 people gathered in the municipality of Lieuron in Brittany and danced in the New Year to techno music. Then the party intensified. The illegal event only ended after more than 24 hours.
Police attacked by party guests
From all over France and apparently even from abroad, the participants traveled to the southern region of the city of Rennes on Thursday. Their goal: to celebrate the New Year with other party guests to the beat of the beats.
Within hours, the police advanced on the ravers for the first time, French media reported. But instead of canceling the New Years party, the situation got completely out of control.
Firefighters were covered in flying bottles and rocks from partially drunk partiers. Several police cars were demolished and one vehicle was even set on fire. The police had no choice but to withdraw temporarily. And the party in Brittany continued.
Could the organizers just walk away?
See you on Saturday morning. Around 6 a.m., the area around some empty warehouses visibly emptied. However, it cannot be an eviction by the police. “There was no police intervention,” reports the local prefecture. Several newspapers report that operators dismantled the music systems, loaded them, and eventually transported them in vehicles.
The police announced that they would systematically monitor people leaving. And French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that more than 1,200 rate-based warnings had been issued. The prosecution has also launched new investigations. (cat)
