Framework agreement – SVP wants to fight the EU ‘submission agreement’ with all its might – News

  • SVP delegates passed a resolution against the institutional framework agreement between Switzerland and the EU – with 148 votes to 7.
  • The party’s president, Marco Chiesa, spoke of a “submission contract” that must be fought with all strength.

The framework agreement would destroy Switzerland, party chairman Marco Chiesa said, according to the speech at the digital delegates meeting. It is nothing more than a progressive accession to the EU. The Federal Council must inform the EU “in a friendly but firm way that we will not renounce our sovereignty”.

Framework agreement: the “mother of all battles”

Zurich’s national councilor, Roger Köppel, sounded the same horn. This treaty is a frontal attack on Swiss sovereignty, democracy and “everything that has made Switzerland successful”. The declared wish of the EU is to end the bilateral path with this treaty. The EU no longer wants an equal relationship with Switzerland, but wants to make Switzerland a “subject of the EU”.

The Federal Council should never have negotiated this contract, Köppel said. The SVP must avoid this framework agreement with all its might. It is the mother of all battles, Köppel said. The institutional framework agreement is the most important issue for Switzerland, more important than Corona.

Fight against coronavirus

Regarding the coronavirus, Federal Councilor Senior Vice President Ueli Maurer called for balanced measures and at the same time warned of the economic consequences of the crisis. Health is important, Maurer said. “But we shouldn’t lose sight of costs either.”

Party leader Marco Chiesa emphasized that the SVP had always advocated for the protection of risk groups. This protection must take place in the federal system. Cantons cannot delegate everything to the federal government. And citizens would have to act independently. Medicine should not be more harmful than disease. So you have to learn to live with the disease.

Groundigen of the CO2 law

What the executive vice president certainly does not want to experience are additional taxes, levies and prohibitions, as provided by the “green left CO2 law,” according to Chiesa. That is why he supports the referendum “against this completely unsuccessful law.” Switzerland has reduced CO2 emissions by 20 percent per capita over the last ten years, on a voluntary basis and thanks to investments.

However, under the pretext of climate protection, the CO2 law wants only one thing: “Redistribute it on a large scale and get even more money out of the pocket of the working middle class.”

Manage immigration independently

The SVP has had ten months of tough votes for its limitation initiative. Despite the loss of the vote, the 38 percent approval showed concerns about immigration, Chiesa continued.

With the adoption of the mass immigration initiative in 2014, there has actually been a constitutional mandate to control immigration independently again. The party continues to fight for it.

Unsurprisingly, SVP delegates approved the slogan to the federal proposals twice on November 29.

  • The rejection of the group responsibility initiative is recommended with 158 negative votes to nine in favor and two abstentions.
  • The no-slogan of the war accords initiative was approved unanimously, with 167 votes in favor of zero to zero and one abstention.
