In a press release, the city of Lucerne makes it clear that no Fasnacht can take place in Lucerne in 2021.
(pw) For the city of Lucerne, due to the current epidemiological situation and the current legal provisions of the federal and cantonal government, it is clear that no Carnival can be held in Lucerne in 2021. This comes from a press release from the city. The city recorded this in the context of the second round table with representatives of the city’s carnival organizations. The press release also says:
“Based on current protection concept requirements and mounting restrictions, carnival events cannot be approved.”
Even the wild hustle and bustle of the carnival is inconceivable under these conditions. In a message to the municipalities, the cantonal management staff informed them last Friday about the current situation in relation to the carnival events. Like the cantonal management staff, the City of Lucerne also welcomes the fact that several organizers have already decided on their own not to carry out large movements or events or to give them up entirely.
Like the cantonal management staff, the city of Lucerne also calls on all Lucerne carnival organizations to refrain from events at Carnival 2021. At the second round table with various city carnival organizations, Councilmember Adrian Borgula stated:
“It is clear for the city that due to the epidemiological situation and the current legal provisions, carnivals cannot be held.”
It is simply unimaginable that the situation develops so positively that carnival events can be passed in February 2021. It is now also important to set clear signals and not let time-consuming preparations go crazy.
Doors still open for smaller events
On Tuesday, representatives of the city’s carnival organizations, as well as representatives of the city and the canton of Lucerne gathered for a second round table with a view to Carnival 2021. The city writes:
“Carnival organizations show understanding for the city’s attitude that under current conditions celebrating carnival is not realistic.”
Taking into account the current situation and the current legal provisions of the federal government and the canton of Lucerne, many carnival organizations have already canceled their big events planned for 2021.
They want to leave a door open to minor events if, contrary to expectations, the epidemiological situation develops positively in February. However, if this is the case, it should be noted that any successes in fighting the pandemic cannot be reversed. Carnival organizations now take the most important findings of the discussion with them and discuss them in their respective committees.
More to come …
