Simon Felix, President of IG Pro Spital Laufen, has lodged a complaint with the Basel cantonal court against the decree approved by politicians to close Laufen Hospital. According to him, the decision of the district and government council violates Section 45 of the State Treaty on the inclusion of Laufental in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Under this contract, the location of Laufen’s hospital must be guaranteed “permanently,” says Simon Felix. “We want this contract to be honored again and there is no reason to dissolve it.”
The framework conditions in the health system have changed enormously in recent years. This is why this state treaty is no longer acceptable, argues the district administrator of the Birsfeld FDP, Christof Hiltmann, who is also chairman of the Health Commission: “We believe that we have taken sufficient account of the state treaty and that everything is legal.” .
The policy provides the basis for legal action
The decree ensures the operation of a regional 24-hour emergency outpatient health center that includes medical personnel. This regulation of compromise does not go too far for advocates of the Laufen hospital location: “With our complaint, we want the hospital to reboot, that is, we want basic care again!” Continues Simon Felix.
The political setback is likely over for the time being, because the district administrator has deliberately assured with the decree that there is a target for a legal dispute. This is now perceived in the form of this very demand. However, Simon Felix is also combative: “We even hope that we will have to go to federal court, and we will too.” Ultimately, a judge has to decide whether Laufen Hospital will be counted as the Cantonal Hospital location and for how long.
