Once users migrate, the chat service postpones the introduction of the new data protection rules for three months.

The short message service WhatsApp has responded to criticism of its new data protection rules. So far, users must accept the new conditions before February 8 if they wish to continue using the chat service. Now, the new data protection guideline should only apply from May 15.

Lots of rivals

In recent days, many users have raised concerns about the new rules. At the same time, WhatsApp rivals such as Telegram, Signal or Threema registered numerous new registrations.

According to WhatsApp, end-to-end encryption is not being tampered with, making chat content only visible in plain text to participating users. Nor is it an extended data forwarding to parent company Facebook.

WhatsApp complained about spreading false information about the new guidelines, which they want to clarify more and more in mid-May.
