It worked on the third attempt: after two places on the podium, Marc Hirschi wins the 12th stage of the Tour de France from Chauvigny to Sarran. He is the first Swiss winner of the day since Fabian Cancellara 2012.
Now rookie Marc Hirschi has won his first Tour de France victory. The 22-year-old Bernese wins the 12th solo stage, over 218 km from Chauvigny to Sarran Corrèze.
Former under-23 world champion Hirschi, who had already been close to the day’s success twice in the previous days in France, wins with a 47-second lead over Frenchman Pierre Rolland. Third place went to the Danish Sören Kragh Andersen, who, like Hirschi, belongs to the Sunweb team. With Sébastien Reichenbach (eighth place), there is a second Swiss in the top 10 in Sarran.
There are no changes to the top of the general classification. The Slovenian Primoz Roglic continues to lead ahead of the Colombian winner of the previous year Egan Bernal (0:21 ago) and the French Guillaume Martin (0:28).
