On Sunday morning, around 8:30 a.m., an apartment building caught fire on Reinacherstrasse in Basel. This is announced by the Basel prosecutor.
Residents alerted emergency services because they noticed a lot of smoke from an apartment on the ground floor. Police and the fire department had to temporarily evacuate several residents of the home. However, no one was injured. However, four people had to be medically cleared due to suspected gas smoke poisoning.
Cause of fire not yet clear
Firefighters are said to have been able to extinguish the fire quickly. The tenants were able to return to the house. The department where the fire broke out was no longer habitable. The upper part of Reinacherstrasse had to be closed to traffic during the operation.
The cause of the fire has not yet been clarified and is the subject of investigations by the criminal prosecution. Persons who can provide relevant information should contact the criminal police at the Basel-City prosecutor’s office or at the nearest police station.
