Shortly after 8.40 pm, a fire alarm went off at the Mömax furniture store in Schönbühl (Moosseedorf municipality), a spokeswoman for the Bern cantonal police confirmed reports from several reader reporters who saw the flames rise on Friday at night. The building has been evacuated. On Fridays there is a night sale at the store until 9 pm According to the police on Saturday, no one was injured. However, there was material damage of several hundred thousand francs.

According to police, the fire broke out on the roof, from where it spread to the inside of the roof and let thick, dark walls of noise rise into the night sky. The fire brigade fought the blaze from a revolving ladder and broke parts of the roof structure, also with the help of chainsaws.

During the extensive extinguishing work, which lasted into the night, firefighters were fed and oxygen cylinders for respiratory protection were refilled on site. Then a fire watch was installed.

In addition to the local fire brigades Moosseedorf, Urtenen-Schönbühl and Münchenbuchsee, the professional fire brigade from Bern had also moved in with a larger number. Several services of the Bern cantonal police and a team of ambulances called as a precaution were also at the scene.

The cause of the fire is investigated

On the motorway leaving Lyss in the direction of Bern, the Schönbühl exit was closed for several hours on Friday and a detour was signaled.

The furniture store was Reopened at the end of September under the name Mömax after the Austrian group XXXLutz took over Interio’s Swiss branches. Now Mömax in Schönbühl must remain closed until further notice, as the company writes in a statement Saturday evening. The causes of the fire are still unknown, the message said.
