  • Tadej Pogacar is the winner of the 2020 Tour de France.
  • The Slovenian is no longer attacked in the final stage from Mantes-la-Jolie to Paris.
  • The last stage is held by Sam Bennett (IRL), the best sprinter of the “Grande Boucle” 2020.

The day before his 22nd birthday, Tadej Pogacar gave himself the best gift and won the Tour de France for the first time.

In the last stage of the 2020 Tour de France, the young Slovenian – as it should be – stopped being attacked and successfully defended the Maillot Jaune in the general classification. He is the second youngest winner in the history of the hardest stage race.

Behind Pogacar, his compatriot Primoz Roglic landed in 2nd position. Richie Porte (AUS) completed the podium. Sébastien Reichenbach was 23rd as the best Swiss.

Bennett successor to Sagan

Victory in the prestigious final stage bound for the Champs Elysees in Paris went to Sam Bennett. The Irishman prevailed in the massive sprint ahead of world champion Mads Pedersen of Denmark and the Slovakian Peter Sagan.

In the first intermediate sprint, Bennett secured the rider’s green jersey with the best points with a fifth place. As the “sprint king”, he replaced Sagan, who had stood in front of the sun for years as a top sprinter in the Bora-hansgrohe team. Bennett switched teams and now returned the favor in impressive fashion with the Deceuninck-Quick Step jersey.
