Federal advisers are rarely seen in their casual appearance. For the most part, they travel across the country in suits and ties. Ueli Maurer, old master of pleasurable provocation, repeatedly scratches the principle of collegiality. He frankly admitted that he had not downloaded the SwissCovid app and did not understand these things.
He also recently advocated shortening the quarantine. In the SVP’s additional sheet on the limitation initiative (BGI), the finance minister criticized immigration without directly advocating a yes to the limitation initiative. Now the SVP magistrate is stylistically out of place.
The reactions were immediate
In July, he showed up for a spontaneous visit to the Casa de la Libertad, the country inn owned by former President Toni Brunner and his partner and national adviser Esther Friedli, in statesman’s garb. “Tell me where you are? The damn sheriffs are back in the country, ”reads the shirt. Friedli posted photos with Federal Council fashions on the country inn’s Facebook page on Wednesday. Ueli Maurer is shown in said shirt, once with Toni Brunner and two women, once with Toni Brunner’s brother Andi. The political reactions came quickly. «Great T-shirt from Ueli Maurer. Yes to the Limitation Initiative (BGI), ”SVP parliamentary group leader Thomas Aeschi tweeted.
To which the national councilor of the CVP of Solothurn, Stefan Müller-Altermatt, responded: “Even with this provocation you will not win points in the vote.”
It’s doubtful that the provocative piece of cloth on Ueli Maurer’s body is turning the wheel around the BGI. Polls indicate a no to the SVP initiative. The news from the opinion polls does not cloud Esther Friedli’s joy at Ueli Maurer’s visit in the Wilhelm Tell look. “He was wearing the jersey when he arrived,” says SVP St. Gallen National Councilor.
They spent a fun afternoon with Maurer at the Casa de la Libertad.
Andi Brunner, Toni Brunner’s disabled brother, was particularly happy with the large turnout. In the photo, Maurer puts her arm around him. “Andi is Ueli Maurer’s biggest fan. I always have to greet him at the Federal Council when I go to Bern,” says Friedli. By the way: Maurer wasn’t the only member of the state government who ended up in Toggenburg during the summer break. Economy Minister and party colleague Guy Parmelin also paid a visit to the Casa de la Libertad. His brother brought wine to the inn.
