In connection with the crown pandemic, Federal Councilor Alain Berset visited Gallusstadt and discussed current developments in the canton with District President Bruno Damann and Government Councilor Fredy Fässler.

Federal Councilor Alain Berset visited St. Gallen on Monday. At the press conference, he described the current situation of the crown in Switzerland as “worrying”. The number of infections would increase daily. That is why Berset appeals to the population and repeats the most important measures to combat the pandemic:
- Be careful
- Keep distance
- Wear masks when distance is not possible
- Get tested for the first symptoms and stay home
According to Berset, it is positive that the number of hospitalizations is controlled. Also, there are, unlike spring, only a few hidden infections. Switzerland currently only uses just under half of the maximum possible of 35,000 tests per day. Rapid tests should be available soon, certification is ongoing.
During its visit to the Kybunpark, the Federal Council took a look at the concept of protection there for important events and states:
“Today at the Kybunpark they showed me how big events with 10,000 spectators can work.”

In general, the first experiences with important events are positive. But Berset emphasizes the importance of a good concept of protection, because the risk in private occasions without sufficient measures can be even greater than in large events.
“The Federal Council is currently reviewing the quarantine rules,” says Berset. The corona strategy is always in development and changes every day. Closures in individual blocks are also possible. But: That is a matter for the respective canton.
“The goal is to do everything possible to avoid a second block.”
