  • The Federal Council increases AHV and IV pensions. In 2021, the minimum monthly pension will increase by 10 Swiss francs and the maximum pension by 20 francs.
  • The amounts will also be increased to cover the general life needs of the supplementary benefits.
  • The self-employed and non-employees pay slightly higher minimum contributions. The Federal Council has also introduced changes to the mandatory labor pension scheme.

Every two years, the Federal Council checks whether it is necessary to adjust pensions. He last increased it in 2019. In the past two years, wages and prices have risen so much that pensions are adjusting again. The decision of the Federal Council is based on the recommendation of the Federal AHV / IV Commission. This is based on the so-called mixed index, the mean of the wage and price index.

A minimum AHV / IV pension is now 1,195 Swiss francs per month, the maximum pension of 2,390 Swiss francs according to the resolutions of the Federal Council on Wednesday. The amounts will also be increased to cover the general life needs of the supplementary benefits. The self-employed and inactive will pay slightly higher minimum contributions from 2021.

The total cost of the pension increases is 441 million Swiss francs. Of this amount, 390 million Swiss francs go to the AHV and 51 million Swiss francs to the IV.

Adjusted supplementary benefits result in additional costs of 1.4 million Swiss francs borne by the federal government and 0.8 million francs borne by the cantons.

Changes for pillars 2 and 3

The Federal Council has also decided to introduce changes to the compulsory labor benefits regime. The coordination allowance increases from 24,885 to 25,095 Swiss francs. The entry threshold is now 21,510 Swiss francs instead of the current 21,330 Swiss francs.

So far, 6,826 Swiss francs can be entered into pillar 3a. This amount will be adjusted to a maximum of 6,883 Swiss francs. Those without a second pillar can now pay up to 34,416 Swiss francs. The maximum today is 34,128 Swiss francs.
