- Basel beat Lucerne on the 14th day of the Super League away 2-1.
- The central Swiss lose compensation in the final phase.
- Basel has narrowed the gap with leader YB to 5 points on the table.
The Super League match between Lucerne and Basel was a razor’s edge in the second half. But FCB goalkeeper Heinz Lindner was able to show his class under pressure. In the 77th minute, the Austrian miraculously prevented Ibrahima Ndiaye from drawing 2: 2 after a header from very close.
Pascal Schürpf had previously regained Lucerne’s hopes after a mess in the Basel penalty area. This goal gave the FCL a lot of momentum, but it was not enough for another goal because of Lindner and despite the pressure phase in the final minutes. Also because the VAR did not intervene after a scene in the 78th minute in the Basel penalty area after an alleged hand by Julian von Moos, a controversial decision.
FCB show at halftime 1
Before the break, coach Ciriaco Sforza’s team had mainly controlled the game. In contrast to the enemy, Basel came out efficiently. Lucerna created several chances and had more possession, but the home team failed to score a goal in the first half. Basel, meanwhile, scored 2 dream goals:
- 23. Minute: After a seemingly clear corner kick, Von Moos reheats the ball with a missed shot. Arthur Cabral reacts quickly and directs the ball to the goal with his heel.
- 36. Minute: After a counterattack, Pajtim Kasami lets out FCL striker Dejan Sorgic and successfully drives away from a distance. The ball fits exactly in the upper corner. A great goal from the 28-year-old.
Then Lucerne went up for Schürpf, but Fabio Celestini’s team wasn’t enough for a point.
So it goes
The two teams are now on winter break. Basel will play the next home game against Zurich on 23 January, Lucerne will continue the next day at Swissporarena against Lugano.
