“2020, YOU LOST!” Vasilije Janjicic begins the new year with this message. 2020 was a horror for the 22-year-old midfielder. Not because of Corona, but because he received the devastating cancer diagnosis in early July.
In early September the talented footballer (Janjicic played in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga and the Swiss U teams before returning to FCZ near Hamburg) started intensive treatment (reported BLICK). Just in time for the New Year, the Swiss with Serbian roots reports: “After three months of chemotherapy and two operations, I have beaten my cancer.”
Now Janjicic is already thinking about playing soccer again! In his emotional post on Instagram, he proclaims: “I am incredibly happy to be back on the pitch soon and finally playing football again.”
Number 8 always played along
So there is hope that FC Zurich will one day play again with their number 8, that is, with the player who wears the number 8 on his back. Despite Janjicic’s absence, the 8th did not go completely. FCZ printed the number on the right sleeve of his jersey in the first half of the season.
FCZ President Ancillo Canepa (67) says: “We are very happy to see him train with the first team again and hopefully see him play again soon.” He admires the joie de vivre that Janjicic fought the disease with. (str)
