FC Helvetia is the answer to the FC National Council, founded in 1967, where women can play since 1997, according to the official website.
Zurich National Councilor Corina Gredig (GLP), as she told Keystone-SDA, had the idea to found the team the day after last fall’s election. The team is made up of parliamentarians from all parties and parliamentary groups. The team wants to play the first serious fight in spring 2021.
Parliamentarians want to hit British women
Gredig spoke of a happy day. As far as she knows, there is only one FC female parliament in Europe in the British Parliament. The FC Helvetia women now wanted to train to beat the British once. The aim of the association is to promote sport in general, and sociability should be promoted in a non-partisan way.
Federal Councilor Amherd was also enthusiastic. She has always been a soccer fan and would have liked to play soccer for a club when she was young. Unfortunately, that was not possible for women at the time, which makes her even happier for the founding of FC Helvetia. Women could play sports together at the club and network across the borders of language and parties.
The name FC Helvetia is based on the movement called Helvetia. Its aim is to increase the proportion of women in politics.
