The largest vaccination campaign in Swiss history is slowly but surely getting underway. 8 million doses will be delivered to Switzerland between April and July and the vaccination rate, which has so far been slow, will finally kick in.
In addition to vaccination centers, Piks are also administered in general practitioners’ practices. And they, of all the people who know their patients best, now, at least occasionally, no longer show any desire for it. As reported by “20 Minuten”, there are individual practices in the cantons of Thurgau, Zug and Zurich who want to give up or do not even want to start vaccinating in the future.
The fee does not cover costs
The reasons are different: On the one hand, the administrative effort is mentioned, among other things. For many, however, costs also play a role. This noise has been burning for a long time: according to the medical profession, the national fee for general practitioners’ practices of CHF 24.50 does not cover costs: at least double is necessary. Individual cantons, including Zurich, pay a premium for this.
Most cantons, however, adhere to the national tariff. Therefore, the WFH Medical Association urges its members to renegotiate with the relevant cantonal health departments, as reported by SRF. And the criticism also comes from national politics. “It is meticulous that health insurers cannot negotiate a decent rate with doctors,” says Ruth Humbel (center), president of the National Council Health Commission in “20 minutes.”
New negotiations are required
The national councilor of the SP, Yvonne Feri, also demands: “The doctors association must enter into negotiations again and represent its clientele well in favor of higher rates.” Of course, the goal is not for family physicians to earn money from vaccination, but rather to earn nothing.
Regardless: it is unclear whether this will bring the vaccination campaign as a whole to a halt. For its part, the WFH emphasizes that the majority of the medical profession continues to vaccinate because it feels responsible for the care of patients. And Thurgau, for example, assures that it is only a matter of individual renegade practices: in terms of quantity, vaccination centers in particular contribute to rapid vaccination and the population can be supplied.
