(wap) The so-called “tuition initiative” has failed. The Federal Chancellery announced Tuesday that the initiative had not been presented as required until November 16 with the required number of signatures. The deadline for collecting signatures began on March 5, 2019, the Federal Chancellery added.
The initiators had already stopped collecting signatures in January. “Along with the continued decline in the number of signatures received, we had to see after two-thirds of the collection period that we could no longer achieve the required number of signatures,” they explained on their website.
The aim of the initiative was to integrate the country code “CH” into Swiss registration plates. This should have prevented Swiss drivers from being fined abroad for forgetting to attach the country code as a separate label.
