It is no coincidence that “Star Wars” day takes place on May 4. Fans know that the date in English sounds like the beginning of what is probably the movie’s most famous quote: “May the force be with you.” This time around, here are some interesting facts about the movie series:
The sound of laser swords
The noise of the laser swords came only by chance. While filming the first movie, a sound designer with a microphone and headphones passed a TV, causing interference: the hum and noise of movie projectors in standby mode were used for movie sequences with the lightsabers. Only later, from the prequel trilogy, synthetic sounds were used for this.
Films made George Lucas a billionaire
In lieu of a fee for the first film, “Star Wars” director and inventor George Lucas received the rights to continue the film series and merchandising. Since “Star Wars” is considered the most commercially successful movie series of all time, this smart move has brought him an estimate of several billion dollars.
The mysterious Yoda
Even those who have never seen the Star Wars movies know Yoda, the small, green, and very powerful Jedi. Although he is one of the most famous characters, nothing about his origin or species is revealed in all the films. By the way, it must first be played by a monkey with a mask and a cane, but then you decided on a doll.
Jabba is full of life.
Jabba the Hutte, an alien gangster who somewhat resembles a large snail, was played by seven people. Three people were on the wrist and moved their arms, jaw, head, tongue and tail. Two other people tore their eyes away from Jabba. Another person was responsible for the lung movement of the wrist, and the seventh person’s job was to blow smoke through a hose. This is how Jabba came to life through teamwork. Priced at approximately $ 500,000, it is said to be the most expensive doll in the world.
The secret: “I am your father”
After “May the Force be with you,” this line is probably the movie’s second-best-known quote: “No, I’m your father.” In this scene, Darth Vader admits to his son Luke that they are related. George Lucas wrote a completely different sentence in the scripts: “Obi-Wan killed your father!” So, the famous words remained a secret until shortly before this sequence was filmed: the actors supposedly only found out shortly before.
Misused accessories
A lot of creativity was demonstrated not only in the script, but also in the film props. The handles of the laser swords were, for example, simply supports for camera flash lights. A potato even once showed itself as an asteroid. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn’s so-called communicator is actually an everyday object that has been redesigned and colored – it’s a Gillette brand women’s razor.
Purple Lightsaber Windus
Supposedly Samuel L. Jackson only wanted to appear in the movies if his laser sword had a special color and would look different from the other swords. Thus, Mace Windu, whose role he embodied, is said to have received a purple lightsaber.
