Online networks Facebook and Instagram are hardening their action against the QAnon movement. This spreads conspiracy theories and supports the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

As Facebook announced on Tuesday (local time), all Facebook pages and groups, as well as all Instagram accounts with connections to QAnon, should be removed “even if they do not contain violent content.”

By August, Facebook had already removed around 800 groups, 100 pages and 1,500 ads with connections to QAnon from its network. Restrictions were also placed on more than 10,000 Instagram accounts, 440 Facebook pages, and nearly 2,000 Facebook groups to limit the reach of QAnon content. Therefore, more than 300 of the so-called hashtags, that is, keywords, related to QAnon, were blocked on both networks.

The short message service Twitter had previously removed thousands of accounts with connections to QAnon.

The QAnon movement spreads the claim that the United States is ruled by a criminal organization said to include former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, billionaire George Soros, and various Hollywood stars. Many QAnon messages are anti-Semitic and far-right in nature.

There are many Trump supporters among the QAnon supporters. Supporters of the movement also recently participated in protests against crown restrictions in the US After Facebook’s decision in August, Trump said he didn’t know much about QAnon.
