Federal Councilor Alain Berset could hardly enjoy the brilliant result he achieved in the last Federal Council elections on December 11, 2019. He obtained the second highest number of votes. But now it turns out that he was blackmailed by a woman earlier that day. He asked for 100,000 francs and threatened to publish personal correspondence with Berset and photos of the interior minister.
But Berset was not blackmailed. Instead of paying the required amount, he denounced the woman. The federal prosecutor then opened a procedure. Berset had her attorney make an appointment with the woman in consultation with investigators. The woman was arrested two days after the Federal Council election. He was in police custody for a day. However, prior to the arrest, he had waived his application in a letter.
