Several government councilors, but also business associations, are pressuring the Federal Council to present an exit plan.
Next week, state governments want to discuss easing lockdown measures in relation to the pandemic. The demand for an exit strategy is growing stronger and broader-based.
Several cantonal representatives are now demanding that the stores be allowed to reopen from March 1. The “SonntagsZeitung” writes that even government councilors in cantons such as Valais, Geneva, Freiburg and Zug, where the number of corona cases is currently highest, longed for the end of the closure.
Cantonal complaints
“Relaxation is now possible,” Valais district president Christophe Darbellay was quoted as saying. First, stores for non-daily necessities would have to open, so Darbellay.
For Geneva health director Mauro Poggia and his colleague from Zug, Martin Pfister, opening stores has a high priority, according to the newspaper. Compared to “Sunday’s hearing,” Poggia said sports facilities, gyms and swimming pools should also reopen on March 1.
The State Councilor of Freiburg, Anne-Claude Demierre, even speaks in favor of a “gradual opening of restaurants” according to the “SonntagsZeitung”.
Economy presents a plan
The economy also calls for relaxation. For example, Economiesuisse and the employers’ association presented their own exit strategy to the Federal Council this week, writes the “NZZ am Sonntag”. Consequently, they are calling for the first relaxation from the beginning of March.
Then, in accordance with the will of the economy, all stores should reopen, the rule of five for meetings was loosened, and the home office obligation ended. The associations are making more relaxations on the progress of the vaccination campaign and the willingness of citizens to vaccinate.
Celebrations for vaccinated people soon?
As soon as there is enough vaccine available for everyone, around June, according to the proposals of the two associations, large events such as concerts, parties or sporting events should be possible again, but only for vaccinated people.
“It would be unfair to constantly limit the lives of those who have been vaccinated just to protect those who do not want to be vaccinated,” said Economiesuisse chief economist Rudolf Minsch.
