The remains of two men, believed to have been surprised by the eruption of Vesuvius on October 25, AD 79, were found during excavations in the area of a suburban village in Pompeii, the local museum reported on Saturday. The experts were enthusiastic about the amount of details they were able to discover about the duo, such as their clothes.

Investigators discovered the remains of a young person, presumably a servant, and a man believed to be between 30 and 40 years old. According to their analysis, the older victim was more elaborately dressed and wore a tunic and a wool coat. Excavations at the town of Civita Giulina, about 700 meters northwest of Pompeii, were going on for some time. Horse remains were also discovered there in 2017.

The results now presented in men were possible because the skeletons were located in cavities under solidified volcanic ash, it was said. The researchers used lasers and computer animation. Using a method that had been used for a long time, molds of the bodies could be made.

The Italian Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, spoke of an “extraordinary discovery”. The museum area of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii is closed due to the corona pandemic, like all museums in Italy. But the investigation continues.

Pompeii sank in the eruptions of Vesuvius in AD 79 Ash, mud and lava buried the settlements. The historic city was rediscovered in the 18th century. Since then, new findings have come to light time and again. The archaeological site is one of the most popular attractions in Italy.
