Throughout the rounds of crisis, it is discussed how a second wave can be prevented. An overview of the situation in some European countries:

France

France reported nearly 27,000 new infections in 24 hours over the weekend, more than ever since the start of the pandemic. The number took another significant jump. The death toll rose 54 to 32,684 on Saturday night. In total, there are around 67 million people in France. In large cities such as Paris, Lyon and Marseille, the highest level of corona warning already applies. There the bars and restaurants that do not sell food had to close for two weeks.

Italy

In Italy, politicians and experts hold crisis meetings almost every day to discuss further steps to stop the spread of the virus. The country of 60 million people, which was the hotspot for Europe’s crown in March, counted 5,724 new infections in 24 hours on Saturday. There were 29 deaths from Covid 19, now there are 36,140 victims. Meanwhile, the masks should also be used outdoors. Now, the government of Rome advises to restrict even more the private celebrations. The crowds of people that can be seen in front of bars and restaurants in many places at night could also be prohibited. Also, according to media reports, there is a risk of restrictions on amateur group sports.

Britain

According to scientists, the UK is at a “crossroads” in the crown crisis. Epidemiologist Jonathan Van-Tam, an adviser to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, said on Sunday: “Unfortunately, in the coming weeks, as night follows day, the number of deaths will increase.” Britain, with its nearly 67 million people, is suffering greatly. On Saturday alone, more than 15,000 new infections were reported in 24 hours. Tens of thousands have died. It is difficult to obtain exact numbers due to lack of evidence. Each part of the country decides its own rules. Johnson is reportedly planning to introduce a new three-tiered package of measures for England on Monday.

Spain

Spain is also very affected with 850,000 infections. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days was 115. In the same period, there were 541 deaths. The proportion of Covid 19 patients in hospitals is increasing. Here it is also mandatory to wear a mask outdoors. Many areas and communities are cordoned off. The government imposed a state of emergency in the capital for two weeks. Madrid and some suburbs can only stay with a good reason, for example, to go to work or visit the doctor. Almost 4.8 million people are affected. Spain has a total of around 47 million inhabitants.

Czech Republic

According to the government, the number of new infections is increasing enormously. Prime Minister Andrej Babis no longer rules out a second lockdown like in the spring. Friday was the fourth consecutive daily record with 8,618 new infections. On Saturday, 4,635 boxes were added, this was the highest value in a weekend. The Czech Republic has just under 10.7 million inhabitants and has recorded 948 deaths since the start of the pandemic. As of Monday, theaters, cinemas, museums, galleries and sports facilities must close.

Poland

Due to the growing numbers, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has announced stricter measures, including the reintroduction of special shopping hours only for the elderly. From the weekend, it is mandatory to wear a mask outdoors. Authorities reported 5,300 new infections in 24 hours on Saturday, a new record for the fifth day in a row. On Sunday the figure was 4,178. Poland has almost 38 million inhabitants. It is the only neighboring country to Germany that has not yet been fully or partially classified as a risk area by the Federal Foreign Office.
