EuroAirport: Aircraft noise is now also displayed on a map

Basel-Mulhouse Airport has permanently installed noise measurement stations and a mobile noise measurement station both at the airport and in the surrounding communities. As the airport communicated through a press release on Thursday, the measurements can now be viewed in TraVis (short for Track Visualization) over the internet. Against various map backgrounds, the software provides information on flight movements, measurement points and noise data.

The radar traces come from the French civil aviation authority DGAC (Direction générale de l’Aviation civile). According to EuroAirport, the publication is subject to certain restrictions: the data is displayed with a delay of 30 minutes. For example, flights under visual flight rules and military flights are not displayed.

More transparency in aircraft noise

TraVis not only offers up-to-date information, data can also be retrieved retrospectively for up to one month. In addition, the tool displays the flight plan and meteorological data, aircraft types, machine climb and descent profiles, as well as level diagrams of individual measurement stations with a click of the mouse. It is also possible to display noise information for individual aircraft movements at a freely selectable location. Flight questions or complaints can also be submitted directly through TraVis with immediate effect.

The publication of the runways and noise data for the general public is based on a request from neighboring associations and a recommendation from the French control authority ACNUSA (Autorité de Contrôle des Nuisances Aéroportuaires). A corresponding measure was subsequently included in PPBE’s current noise prevention plan. EuroAirport is now implementing this measure and thus contributing to compliance with the principles of sustainability. Open and transparent monitoring of flight operations is an important part of this.
