Lewis Roberts (18) of Leek in the English county of Staffordshire was hit by a pickup truck on March 13 and suffered serious injuries. Four days later, he was pronounced brain dead at the hospital. His family decided to donate his organs.
But then the incredible happened: a few hours before the operation, during which the organs were removed, Lewis Roberts begins to breathe on his own again: he wakes up.
“We should say goodbye”
His sister Jade Roberts (28) told the British newspaper “Daily Mail”: “We should say goodbye forever.”
After numerous tests, the hospital informed them that Lewis had given up the fight and was brain dead. Seven people received the organs, according to the newspaper.
Hospital staff stunned
Says his sister: “A miracle that any family can only wish after they say that Lewis has no chance of passing.” Lewis is also a miracle for the hospital staff. “Doctors can’t believe it, they’ve never seen anything like this before.”
The 18-year-old has made progress since then. You can move your limbs and also turn your head from side to side. You can also blink and move your mouth. “This boy is getting stronger every day,” says his sister hopefully. (euc)
