Engelberger calls for cautious easing

It’s best to open it in a controlled and careful manner so as not to risk another crown-related lock later on. GDK President Lukas Engelberger asked for this after a meeting of cantonal representatives with Federal Councilor and Health Minister Alain Berset on Thursday in Bern.

One has a great understanding of the growing and widespread impatience, said Engelberger, president of the Cantonal Directors of Health Conference (GDK). And furthermore: “Now we need a lasting confidence that everything will be better.”

Engelberger spoke to the Bundeshaus media in favor of a national approach. “National measures are currently the best solution.” Currently, the situation in the different cantons does not differ significantly. Cantonal solutions are appropriate when there are “definable regional groups”. That could be the case again in a few months.

Vaccinations have started well, but it appears that individual cantons continue to put the handbrake on. The tests are just as important – there’s still room for improvement there, Engelberger said.
