End of Nations League – Italy and Belgium buy tickets for the final phase – sport

Italy (2-0 in Bosnia-Herzegovina) and Belgium (4-2 against Denmark) each achieved a group victory in the Nations League.

League A – Group 1: Italy win mandatory victory

Before the last day it was already clear that Italy could secure a ticket to the finals with a triple distance against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The azzurri managed to do this without major problems. Andrea Belotti used a counterattack in the 22nd minute, Domenico Berardi scored in the 68th minute with a good volley for the well-deserved 2-0 final result.

As Italy won with confidence, the Poland – Netherlands match was no longer about anything. “Oranje” overcame an early deficit through his top two players Memphis Depay with a penalty and Georginio Wijnaldum from a corner kick in the 77th and 84th minute for a 2-1 victory. The Netherlands finished Group 1 of League A in second place.

League A – Group 2: Belgium thanks to Lukaku

Belgium secured group victory thanks to a 4-2 home win against Denmark. The guests, who absolutely needed a win to push Belgium from first place, held up well with the home team until after the break.

But, once again, Romelu Lukaku made the difference. First he was lucky enough to take the lead again (57th), then he did better with his head in his inimitable way (69th). The great failure of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois shortly before the end was no longer significant.

England faced the already relegated Icelanders to a 4-0 home win without issue. Declan Rice and Mason Mount set the course for victory early with a double strike (20./24.). Phil Foden put together a double in the final 10 minutes.

League B: Wales, Swiss rival in EM

Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Swiss Euro rival Wales made the leap to the first floor.

Austria secured promotion with a 1: 1 in the B1 “final” against Norway, which began with a hastily assembled Notelf due to a Covid case and associated quarantine. The Czech Republic beat Slovakia 2-0 in group B2 and benefited from Scotland’s 1-0 defeat in Israel.

Hungary capitalized on the 5-0 debacle of previous Russia in Serbia with a 2-0 win against Turkey in group B3. Wales beat Finland 3-1 in the “promotion final” in group B4.

Turkey, also a rival of Switzerland in the European Championship, is relegated to class C after losing to Hungary.
