Barbara Matter (41) was named the winner on Friday at the final of the SRF program “Landfrauenküche” in Zurich. The Emmental woman was the one who most convinced her six colleagues throughout the season. “I was totally overwhelmed, I was speechless,” Matter explains. “It was really nice meeting these six different women. So bringing the victory home is the icing on the cake. “The first person to congratulate was her husband Bärnu (36).” She had tears in her eyes, that really touched me. “With her victory, the dream of the compatriot was makes it come true for a long time: “I’ve been a huge fan since the show started and I’ve watched every episode.”
The Matter family farm is located in idyllic Rumendingen BE in Emmental. Barbara lives here with her husband and their two daughters Larina (8) and Mia (5). His father-in-law Ruedi (66) lives in the Stöckli next door, who helps out on the dairy farm every day. The family has up to 35 dairy cows and has a cattle calf with around 100 “Guschti”, their own and in breeding.
Kindergarten, theater and Hornussen
The trained kindergarten teacher travels to Wasen BE three days a week where she teaches her own class: “Being able to be creative, painting and crafting with the little ones is an ideal way to balance farm work. Every three years Matter also participates as a theater director at an open-air theater. “I love creating my own world with the help of actors, music, and props.” As a sports balance, the Matters go to Hornussen’s training once a week. “That keeps us fit as a couple,” he laughs.
The hobby dairy also likes to help out in her kitchen and make all the dairy products herself. In doing so, he surprised his six competitors in the decisive visit to the farm. In addition to the homemade cream, quark and cream cheese, the fine Rumendinger Chemibraten also helped her to her ultimate success.
The community has been cheering since the beginning of the season.
The sympathetic Bernese’s victory as the best rural cook in 2020 quickly spread to her village of 80 after the final broadcast was recorded. “The whole community has already congratulated me,” says Matter. “Everyone has been cheering and supporting me since the beginning of the season. It is one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. “
Rumendinger Chemibraten
1 kg of roast pork (smoked pork neck), order early from the butcher
1 tablespoon of rapeseed oil
1 tablespoon of honey
1 EL Senf
1 teaspoon ground peppercorns
1 garlic clove, pressed
1 TL olive sauce
¼ TL curry
Put the oil in a bowl. Add the honey, mustard, peppercorns, garlic, Worchester sauce, and curry and mix well. Spread the smoked pork roast with it and cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 days.
Take the smoked pork roast out of the refrigerator one hour before preparation. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius. Provide a refractory mold.
Place the roast in the ovenproof dish and put it in the oven. Cook at 150 degrees for 90 to 120 minutes (depending on thickness).
Serve with: potato wedges, 1 or 2 sweet potatoes, and baked vegetables with chives sauce
