The first race of the two electric cars is really unfair: after a countdown of three per horn, both drivers step on the power pedal, but filmed from the Tesla, it seems that their opponent, the new Mini Cooper SE that has been available since March, it just stops. No wonder, because the small BMW group electric car was dealing with a Tesla Model 3 Performance, and that accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds instead of 7.3 seconds (like the Mini) only up to 150 km / h). This is impressively demonstrated in a comparison video. However, for a second race, the two evaluators think of something else and the Mini wins.
Love for Tesla as for Mini
The moderator explains after the first race, in which the Model 3 disappears almost out of sight, and after he has been excited about the acceleration of the Performance Tesla, he has to say directly that he did not want to hurt the Mini. He loves the two electric cars, he explains, they are just so different, and the Model 3 is simply faster.
But his opponent with the Electric Mini also has a real-life Tesla, a Model 3 with all-wheel drive, he says. And he knows from him how much an impact it has if he activates the cold mode (called “casual” in Germany); the configuration significantly reduces the performance of Teslas, which is used, for example, by drivers who are not yet familiar with it or who want to save electricity. The two agree to activate this mode for the next race.
He honks his horn three times again, and again the two drivers (in remarkably similar-looking white seats) step on the pedal. The film is shot outside of Tesla. In this perspective, you can see that it shoots up a bit from the start, but the advantage quickly disappears, the Mini beats Model 3 and continues to gain advantage. Because testers did not expect this, the Tesla is no longer visible from the outside for the rest of the race. Instead, the interior shots show their amazed driver and delighted man in the mini electric.

“This should only show how much cooling mode reduces performance on the Tesla Model 3,” explains the mini-driver more naturally afterward, despite his own experience, he was surprised by the move himself. But the result is definitely a good argument for the Mini, the moderator agrees: The small competitor can now claim that it’s as fast as a Tesla Performance model, at least if it moves in casual mode.
