- 14 of the 26 municipalities have been counted: the former government councilor, Christian Amsler (FDP), is in last place and could lose his re-election.
- Christian Amsler currently has nearly 1,000 votes fewer than his challenger, Patrick Strasser of the SP.
- So far, Cornelia Stamm Hurter (SVP) and Martin Kessler (FDP) have had the most votes.
- Dino Tamagni (SVP) is currently in third place. Dino Tamagni is a new candidate like Patrick Strasser. In fourth place is the former Government Councilor Walter Vogelsanger (SP).
- Six candidates are vying for one of the five seats on the Schaffhausen governing council.
- Four previous candidates are running for re-election: current education director Christian Amsler (FDP) is considered an unstable candidate.
- The Social Democrats want to remove Amsler from office and eventually win a second seat on the governing council.
Schaffhausen’s governing council elections are dominated by men this year: five candidates and one candidate hope to win the favor of their electorate. Former Christian Amsler (FDP), Martin Kessler (FDP), Walter Vogelsanger (SP) and Cornelia Stamm want Hurter
(SVP) defend their seats.
The FDP is likely to tremble in particular with its current government adviser Christian Amsler. In recent months, the 56-year-old man had to receive a lot of criticism due to complaints at the Schaffhausen school dental clinic. For the first time in Schaffhausen’s history, a parliamentary inquiry commission was even deployed, from which Amsler did not get a good report.
The Social Democrats directly attack Christian Amsler’s seat. He expects a historic blow: his candidate Patrick Strasser should finally win a second seat for the SP after twenty years. But this strategy is risky: Strasser could jeopardize the re-election of the current SP government adviser, Walter Vogelsanger. Critics describe him as a quiet and low-key politician.
The chances are particularly good for the SVP to defend its two seats on the governing council. It is the party with the largest number of voters in the canton of Schaffhausen. Ernst Landolt, the former government councilor for the senior vice president, is no longer running for re-election. Party colleague Dino Tamagni should be able to secure the second seat.
