Who is new to city government? What is the new parliament like? This is how the Bernese voted.

town hall

Alec von Graffenried is still mayor. It received 34,930 of the 42,764 ballots received.

The sole competitor, Stefan Theiler, got 2,413 votes. The city counted a total of 5,419 blank or invalid votes, or 12.5 percent.

In 2016, when Ursula Wyss (SP) and Alec von Graffenried (GfL) dueled for the city council, only 491 Stapi ballots were invalid on the first ballot.

Town Hall (government)

Marieke Kruit moves to the Bern city government for the SP, former Franziska Teuscher (GB), Alec von Graffenried (GFL), Michael Aebersold (SP) and Reto Nause (CVP) are re-elected.

The red-green alliance, which has ruled since 1992, increases its share of the vote by almost 2 points to 63.7 percent. He can easily take the seat of the resigning Ursula Wyss and her 4: 1 majority.

Surprisingly, the FDP and SVP clearly fail when trying to win a seat on the municipal council. In addition to the SVP, the big loser is the FDP, who had calculated realistic chances with Bernard Eicher of regaining the lost seat in 2016.

With a participation of 15 percent of the votes, the bourgeois list remains clearly behind the middle list with the main candidate Reto Nause; his list reached 19.5 percent. (paf)

Town Hall (Parliament)

Green Liberals and Greens are on the rise: There were only marginal changes within the blocs in the city council elections. The biggest winner is GLP and its young party with a total of three seats won. They provide a slight strengthening of the medium. In the field of the middle class, the FDP and the SVP had to surrender.
