Discontent among Nevada authorities: Contrary to the requirements of the US state crown, the US President held his first election campaign rally in a closed hall since late June.
US President Donald Trump, who is running for re-election in November, spoke for more than an hour in front of largely unmasked supporters at the production facilities of a construction machine manufacturer in the city of Henderson. “Tell your governor to open his state,” Trump said, referring to Nevada’s head of government, Democrat Steve Sisolak.
A spokeswoman for the city of Henderson told CNN that the event violated state regulations on the crown. Gatherings of more than 50 people in a public or private setting are currently prohibited.
The host could lose the license
As the host of the event, the manufacturer could also lose its business license. Shortly before the event began, Governor Sisolak harshly criticized Trump. Sisolak tweeted that the president was acting “merciless and selfish” and endangering “countless human lives” in Nevada.
Trump’s campaign team said the event will measure body temperature and provide masks and hand sanitizer. At Trump rallies, however, participants often do not wear masks and often do not maintain a greater physical distance.
Most recently, Trump held an election rally in front of thousands of supporters in a closed room against the advice of health experts. Local health officials in Tulsa, Oklahoma, attributed the rise in coronavirus infections in the district to this appearance in the campaign.
In the United States, with about 330 million people, about 6.5 million people have been infected with the pathogen Sars-CoV-2 and about 194,000 people have died. Although the number of corona cases nationwide recently fell again after a sharp rise in July, experts continue to recommend covering your mouth and nose and maintaining a physical distance, also with an eye toward the upcoming flu season.
