Desert scenes in Biel

Already in the early afternoon in Biel there were large concentrations of people who threw pyrotechnics at different places in the city center in public spaces, partly in buildings and in the direction of public transport vehicles. The police had been more active.

A barricade was erected on Gartenstrasse and a container was set on fire. When the emergency services intervened, bottles and stones were thrown, among other things, in his direction. Rubber pellets had to be used.

In order to enforce the measures and regulations to protect against the coronavirus currently in force, people were monitored during the police operation in the center of Biel. After a dispute between several people in the Ländtestrasse primary school was reported and pyrotechnic articles were also lit in the station underpass and in the station square and a larger group of people formed, it was decided to dissolve the concentration at the station.

When repeated requests to leave the site were not met, pellets and irritants had to be reused. According to the current state of knowledge, an uninvolved person was allegedly slightly injured while using the funds.

14 people stopped

Soon after, pyrotechnics were re-lit in the city center at Guisanplatz in public spaces and the property was damaged, resulting in the repeated use of irritants. 14 people, mostly teenagers and young adults, were detained overnight and taken to a police station for further clarification.

In the other regions of the Canton of Bern, people were checked and detained on several occasions, in particular in relation to reported property damage, disputes and large concentrations of established people.
