The number of new corona infections is skyrocketing. Therefore, the Federal Council tightened the screw again on Wednesday, also for schools. From secondary level II, for example, a mask is required for schoolchildren, but also for teachers.
However, depending on the situation, the cantons may proceed more strictly. Several have already done so. In Baselland, for example, all children over the age of 12 must wear a mask.
Some schools are preparing for closure
At 4 pm, the Directors of Education Conference (EDK) will appear in front of the media. The reason behind this is the annual meeting. But Corona will undoubtedly become the main theme. Because: Many schools are already preparing for a possible second lockdown with associated distance learning.
But EDK chairwoman Silvia Steiner made it clear at the beginning of the press conference: “Other distance learning must be avoided at all costs.” A school will only be closed if there is an accumulation of infections there.
Children have little influence in a pandemic
Because children have, the federal government just confirmed this again, only a small influence on the pandemic. In addition, schools have a social responsibility: for the education of children, for equal opportunities and also for alleviating sometimes difficult conditions in families. Especially in the Corona year, the situation is tense in some places.
