The aviation industry has been going through one of the worst crises in its history for months. Now Easyjet Switzerland is also suffering the consequences and laying off 70 employees to save costs.
The airline employs a total of 450 people in Basel and 570 in Geneva. The Swiss branch of the British low-cost carrier is also parting ways with two planes.
Thomas Klühr, CEO of Swiss, had previously announced that he would have to shed 1,000 employees over the next two years.
In August, Easyjet was still assuming it could restart its flights. By the end of September it should be 40 percent of the flights compared to the previous year. But this forecast turned out to be wrong: Easyjet reduced its offer again. And now turn to the last resort: layoffs and sale of aircraft.
