The sunny Swiss lounge attracts many tourists on vacation. The first visitors traveled to Ticino on Holy Thursday.
Even though the restaurants are closed and the outdoor mask is a must, as in Ascona, Verzasca or Lugano, people enjoy the splendid weather. And with an ice cream in hand or pedal boat, the Corona measures can also be endured.
The lake promenade in Ascona is well packed on Thursday afternoons. Jochen Fiedler (49) and Gabriela Ziepra (32) came from Germany to spend a few days relaxing in their vacation apartment. We were here on New Years Eve. There was a very gloomy mood there. And now we buy pizza and wine and we think this opening is very good, ”he tells BLICK, before the two go out to the lake in a pedal boat.
“Tourists are very important to us”
The little booetli are also very popular. “He was a bit miserable at first, but now he’s in disguise. There are many more people here now. Tourists are very important to us, ”says a happy employee of a boat rental company, Severin Gautschi.
Remo Hirt (62) and Rita Blickenstorfer (52) from Biel BE are almost forced to spend a week’s vacation in Switzerland. “Until now, Ticino has been more of our passage to Italy,” he laughs. “Actually, we prefer to be by the sea. But it’s also nice here in Ticino, ”he says.
Tourists enjoy the warm temperatures. But a disappointment remains. “It is a bit limiting. It would be better to sit on the terrace somewhere, says Mike Helle (47) of Adliswil ZH, while he and his wife Katharina (39) have a snack on the bench. “But it’s still nice to go out again. We were at home for a long time, working a lot from home. Then you need fresh air again. ”
Big rush on friday
For most visitors, it is important to reserve a hotel room so that you can dine in the restaurant in the evening. But some also come on excursions. Like Alessandro Martire (20). The young man and his partner grab a booet. “Then we will go for a walk and enjoy the weather.”
Mario Russo (61) has a boutique in Ascona. The native Italian is happy to open his shop. “I am glad that the German-speaking Swiss are coming to us now.”
Since Friday, the tourism experts of the canton expect a great rush. According to Ticino Tourism, the occupancy of hotels in the bastions of Lake Maggiore is between 80 and 90 percent. Three-quarters of the rooms are reserved in Lugano. This is not a record, but a lot for times of pandemic.
