E-scooter causes fire in Steinacher’s apartment – one person injured
A fire broke out in an attic in Steinach early Thursday morning. According to the police, the alleged cause of the fire is the battery of an e-scooter.

(Tennessee) In a press release, the St. Gallen canton police wrote that the 56-year-old apartment resident was awakened by a noise in the middle of the night. By the time he wanted to get to the bottom of the noise, his apartment was already full of smoke of its own accord. Emergency services alerted and then evacuated the two adjoining apartment buildings. The 56-year-old man had to be evacuated through the roof. The local fire department found a damaged e-scooter in the very smoky apartment, the battery of which is believed to have started the fire.

The 56-year-old man was taken to hospital by emergency services on suspicion of serious smoke poisoning. The attic is no longer habitable, the exact amount of damage is still unknown. Since then, the remaining apartments have been released again.

The center of forensic competence of the police of the canton of St. Gallen is now investigating the exact cause of the fire. In addition to several patrols, the police of the canton of San Galo, the local fire department with about 50 people and two ambulances were on duty.
