Due to the way station in Lucerne: in the Rontal, a huge storage station with 13 tracks will be built from 2028

Where will the trains from the new Lucerne metro station stay overnight? Now the answer is clear: SBB is planning a large car park in Dierikon.

The planned way station in Lucerne not only has a great impact on the city of Lucerne, but also on the feeding routes, especially in Rontal. At Ebikon, the new tunnel will flow to the main line below the lake basin:

And now it is known that the community of Dierikon is also greatly affected by the project of the station of the century. A new train parking lot with a total of 13 tracks will be built in the Rontal feeder area. The location is perfect for this, write the SBB in a message. On the one hand, because there is enough space and because the location is easily accessible from the Lucerne train station. The canton of Lucerne will anchor the new track system in Dierikon in the cantonal structure plan in a binding manner.

But why is a new track system needed? The problem is that there will no longer be a direct connection between the old and the new Lucerne train station. Trains running on the underground line across the city cannot be parked on the above airways at Lucerne station. Therefore, a new plant must be built. Thanks to the new Lucerne-Ebikon tunnel, the Dierikon sidings will be just a few minutes from the main train station. In Dierikon, trains have to park overnight and outside of rush hours, when not all vehicles are needed.

Construction will begin in 2028

The track system will be built from 2028 or 2029, probably before construction work begins on the new tunnels and the way station.

A total of three locations in the Rontal were evaluated. The fact that Dierikon was chosen also has to do with the fact that the area is relatively remote from residential areas. In reality, a large new development would have been planned in the immediate vicinity of the Rontalzentrum. But in late 2019, the voters of Dierikon sank these plans.

Dierikon Mayor Max Hess (CVP) suggests the council is not exactly enthusiastic about SBB’s plans. “But it is positive that we are included in the planning from the beginning. We have clearly indicated to SBB that we want to follow the project closely. “It is hoped that in addition to emissions and land consumption, there will be some added value to the community. SBB’s plans were first presented to the people of Dierikon in the community meeting on Monday night There will also be an informational event in late March.

A second parking facility for the trains is planned from the way station in the north, specifically at Sursee. However under current plans this should be significantly smaller than at Dierikon and comprise only four tracks.

SBB outsources the planning of the way station to external offices

SBB has the planning community LUx (composed of the AFRY Switzerland, Dürig Architekten, B + S and Lombardi offices) in charge of planning the Lucerne metro station. The two tunnels leading to the new train station (Dreilinden- / Seetunnel and Neustadttunnel) are planned by two other planning associations: TransLu (Gähler und Partner, ILF Consulting Engineers and DSP Engineers offices) also Hombrig (Aegerter & Bosshardt, Locher Ingenieure and Ramboll). A preliminary project for the station and tunnels should be available by 2022. Planning costs are around 100 million francs. This money has already been approved, in contrast to actual construction costs of around 2.4 billion francs. Parliament will not decide on this until 2026. Construction of the diameter line will start in 2028 at the earliest, with completion scheduled for around 2040. (rk)
