Sunday’s women’s Super-G in St. Moritz cannot take place.
After heavy snowfall, the danger of avalanches throughout the ski area is too great.
A first Super-G could not be held on Saturday.
Speed specialists have to wait for the season to start. The heavy snowfall in the Engadine is to blame. After Saturday’s Super-G could not be held in St. Moritz, it was announced at the team captains meeting Saturday afternoon that the Corviglia is also undrivable on Sunday. Another Super-G would have been on the agenda.
As avalanche danger continued to rise on Saturday, the Snow and Avalanche Research Institute in Davos issued a recommendation to close all ski areas in the Upper Engadine, including St. Moritz. The organizers followed the recommendation. Since Friday, a low winter storm in St. Moritz has caused a sudden start to winter.
It is not yet clear if and when the two races will be rescheduled.
