After a landslide on Saturday morning between Tenero and Riazzino in the Canton of Ticino, the Locarno-Cadenazzo railway was interrupted for more than five hours.
Replacement buses were operated. In the early afternoon the problem was resolved.
The report on the outage was received at 9.30am, SBB spokesman Frédéric Revaz said at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. Due to the construction of an underpass, the earth slid under the tracks. SBB specialists took care of the damage.
All long-distance trains were canceled between Bellinzona and Locarno. The S-Bahn had to turn around Cadenazzo and Locarno. Around 2:45 p.m., the railroads were able to resume normal operations.
