With the colder season and more frequent indoor activities, the importance of coronavirus transmission via so-called aerosols may increase, writes the federal Covid-19 Scientific Working Group in its latest “Policy Brief.”, Link opens in a new window.
It is not yet clear how important aerosols play in the transmission of Sars-CoV-2. However, according to the expert group, aerosols have been shown to play an important role in overproliferation events in poorly ventilated indoor spaces and, in particular, with activities such as talking, singing, yelling, and physical activity.
Only short stays in poorly ventilated rooms
Experts advise people to wear masks indoors despite a minimum distance of 1.5 meters, especially in poorly ventilated rooms where they spend a lot of time. They also recommended adequate ventilation, avoiding large crowds of people indoors, short stays in poorly ventilated rooms and, if possible, avoiding activities with high emissions of aerosols.
Systematic ventilation is most important in the cold season, when windows tend to close and rooms get warm and social activities take place indoors, the working group writes. In many cases, opening the window briefly at regular intervals is the simplest form of ventilation.
