A Ticino player who was not present at the match tested positive for Covid-19. Because he had contact with the team, the game had to end in the second period. The incident has no consequences for the EVZ farm team.
The second third was running between EV Zug’s farm team and the Ticino Rockets when Ticino received a message causing the abandonment of the game. A player’s crown test showed positive results. As sports director Sebastien Reuille explained to the “Corriere del Ticino”, the affected player did not feel so fit on Wednesday morning before training, he did not go out on the track with the team and was sent home. According to the sports director, he later had no contact with his teammates. The problem: The player who did not identify himself had seen his teammates, coaches and employees when he showed the first symptoms.
Ticino locals are being tested, Zug locals are not
The team went to the game in Zug a day later without warning. During the match, the Ticino athletic leadership was informed that the crown test was positive. Sports director Sebastien Reuille briefed the league and the EVZ Academy management. As a precaution, both teams decided not to return to the ice, causing the game to be abandoned. The Rockets attendance list was sent to the Canton of Ticino. Players are now being tested to find out if other team members are infected and if they should be quarantined.
At the request, Zug’s health department was not aware that the party was abandoned. «The positive case of Ticino has no consequences for the players of Zug. No action is needed because there was no direct contact between the Zug players and the infected person, ”says Aurel Köpfli, communications officer for the Zug health department. This is also confirmed by EV Zug. “Training and match operations will continue without restrictions until further notice. The abandonment of the game was a precautionary measure in order to minimize the risk to both teams as much as possible, ”says media spokeswoman Marisa Boog.
