The “heads of the Moors” reappear in the headlines. Recently, the controversial chocolate foam kiss sparked a debate in Switzerland. A Twitter user publicly denounced the racist name. He asked retailers to take the “Mohrenkopf” out of reach. Migros and Volg answered the call and blew Dubler’s foam kisses off the shelf.
Three months later, the next hammer. Richterich de Laufen BL is under public pressure. The company does not use the name “Mohrenkopf” for its best-known sweet.
Dubler can only smile
The King of Mohrenkopf, Robert Dubler (72), can only smile for that. “Richterich is small,” he tells LOOK. “I am fortunate to be able to allow myself to be independent and defend my convictions.”
Dubler leads the company in the second generation. “As long as I live, the name will stand,” he told BLICK in June when the scandal made waves. The Richterich-Mohrenkopf from Laufen looks a lot like the Dubler foam kiss from Waltenschwil AG. It is also wrapped in gold packaging.
Richterich’s foam kisses at the mansion
From now on, only the name of the family business will be on the foam kisses of the traditional Richterich company. It is not yet known whether the company made this decision for economic or ethical reasons. VIEW was unable to reach Richterich after an initial request.
But it’s also a fact: the Manor retailer removed Richterich’s kisses from its range in the summer in reaction to accusations of racism. Now they are available again. With new packaging.
“It is a pragmatic decision not to print the word ‘Mohrenkopf’ on the gold foil,” says Richterich spokeswoman Cécile Grüninger. “We are simply responding to the wishes of some customers,” he says.
