On Wednesday morning, shortly after 6.30am, there was a head-on collision between two cars on Kantonsstrasse in Bubendorf BL. One person was seriously injured, according to the Basel police.
According to information provided so far by the authorities, the 41-year-old driver was traveling on the cantonal road in the direction of Liestal, coming from Hölstein. Shortly before the Talhaus stop, for reasons that have not yet been fully clarified, he pulled into the opposite lane with his car and collided head-on with an oncoming car. Due to the force of the impact, the passenger car moving in the direction of Hölstein turned 180 degrees and was thrown onto the Waldenburgerbahn route; the vehicle that caused the accident stopped in the opposite direction of travel in the lane leading to Liestal.
The fire brigade must free motorists
The seriously injured driver of the car driving in the direction of Hölstein had to be rescued from the car by firefighters and later taken by Rega to a hospital. The driver of the car that caused the accident was also injured in the collision and was taken to a hospital by the medical service.
The two damaged vehicles had to be loaded and removed by a towing company.
The traffic accident caused the Waldenburgerbahn to stop working for about 3 hours. The canton highway had to be closed in both directions for the duration of the investigation. Despite a local detour, there were traffic obstructions.
