“Now it’s getting really dramatic,” says the president of the Gastro-Zurich Association, Ernst Bachmann, with a view of the restaurants on the left and right banks of Lake Zurich up to the “Zürichsee-Zeitung”. The second wave makes life difficult for the hosts, they are plagued with existential fears.
“A reservation for eight people has just been canceled at noon. Before that, a person who had reserved a table for two canceled, ”Bachmann told the newspaper, who runs a restaurant in Wollishofen ZH. This happens all the time in the moment. People are insecure or increasingly return to the home office, he says.
The second wave is more dramatic
The restaurant industry is now more affected by Corona than in spring. The prospect of a lucrative summer gave them wings back then. You could entertain the guests outside. “Now winter is approaching, which makes it difficult to see until March,” Bachmann tells the “Zürichsee-Zeitung”. There would also be many rejections. “New Year’s Eve dinner, Christmas dinner, everything is canceled.”
The first bars close their doors. This shows that it is about surviving right now. For example, the Keywest restaurant in Oberrieden ZH closes at the booth on Lake Zurich. Or the Hotel Du Lac in Wädenswil.
No layoffs for now
There should be no layoffs at the moment, employees will be sent to part-time jobs. The operating company hopes to reopen the restaurant in the spring and the hotel in January. (pbe)
