Drama on the Titlis (OW): three mountaineers slide in a snow field

Recovery on the steep slope was very laborious. One mountaineer in the group was seriously injured in the accident, another slightly. They flew you to a hospital. The third person was only able to recover dead. The three men are mountaineers from outside the canton between 35 and 37 years old.

The Rega operations center was alerted directly through the Rega app. On the way to the scene, Rega’s team picked up a mountain rescuer from the Swiss Alpine Club SAC to support the complex rescue operation.

To ensure medical care for patients on site, the Wilderswil base rescue helicopter was also called in. In addition to the two Rega helicopters, four mountain rescuers and a Swiss Helicopter helicopter were on duty during the lengthy rescue operation, which lasted several hours.

Obwalden Canton Police and Obwalden Public Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the cause of the accident.
