Another wanted to help, climbed into the tank and passed out. The two men were rescued by firefighters with respiratory protection. One of the men died at the scene, the second was taken to the hospital by the ambulance service. The Sursee prosecutor is conducting the investigation.
On Friday, October 16, 2020, shortly after 1:15 p.m., a workplace accident was reported to the police at the company’s Reiden facility. Investigations revealed that one employee, a 32-year-old Kosovar, climbed into an empty liquid tank without a protective mask to carry out cleaning work. After a while he passed out. A second man, a 31-year-old Swiss, also entered the tank without a protective mask to provide assistance. He also fainted. The two people were rescued under respiratory protection by firefighters. The 32-year-old Kosovar died at the scene. The 31-year-old Swiss was taken to hospital by ambulance service 144 and released late at night.
Members of the Wiggertal and Zofingen fire brigades, the 144 rescue service, the Alpine air ambulance (AAA), the official office and the Lucerne police were on duty.
The exact course of the accident and the cause are the subject of ongoing investigations. The Sursee prosecutor is conducting the investigation.
